Canned Food Drive!

Dear Reader-

Do Or Dye is collecting canned food for Second Harvest Food Bank! From now until December 20th we will have a barrel at the salon for collections. We are not asking for any money, only food for the food bank to be able to provide Christmas dinner to anyone in need. Second Harvest does so much for the community, we are certainly happy to help out this season. All donations are appreciated, one can or ten!

YouR Wand Curling Iron

Dear Reader-

For a few years now, wand curling irons have been all the rage. Just wrap your hair around and hold- no clamps, no pulling and pressing. The fancy Ove-Glove type mitt allows you to put your hand around your hair without burnt flesh. High tech!

Strapped for cash? You can still participate in this trend, and it won’t cost you a dime. How, you might ask? With Arrowhead Murphy’s Magic Cureall Linament Elixer! Your own current curling iron.

Irons consist of a barrel and a shell. Simply don’t open the shell, and wrap your hair right around the entire closed iron. Viola! A wand curling iron. Beachy spiraled waves await your hair, and you didn’t have to clutter your cabinet with yet another apparatus. You’re welcome!

Sincerely,

Erin

Warriors are in the playoffs! Beware the parking lot…

Dear Reader-

The Warriors have done it again-Dub Nation is in the playoffs! Congratulations! There is a waiting list for season tickets now, and Warriors Fever is at an all time high. I remember way back when, the Warriors couldn’t give tickets away. My husband would go to games for about $15, and it was anything but sold out! But I digress…..

Playoffs mean that Rookies Sports Bar next door will be doing a slam dunk business, and the parking lot will be busier and more crowded than normal. So please allow a few extra minutes to find a spot. Remember, there is parking in the back!

Best,

Erin

Go Warriors!

Live and Let Live Beautifully

Dear Reader-

It has been said to me more than once, “It’s not crazy, sorry.” The girls and I are, as one would say, unique looking, to be sure. Tattooed from head to toe, snow cone hair, ridiculous large skirts- I get it. However, we are all on the same page about individual style, no matter what that might look like.

Your haircut is just that- yours. It belongs to your life and your comfort level. It doesn’t need to be wild and crazy to be interesting to us. What it does have to be is good. Good styling, good longevity, and good feeling for you. Now, is bubblegum pink hair interesting to us? Of course. If you have had the same style for twenty years, now that may require an apology for some snoozedom.  Here is what you will apologize for- home hairbleach jobs, drunken hair cutting with Fiskars or hedge trimmers, referring a crazy person.

If it suits you, is cut well, and you love it, it is great. We are easy chicks that way. So please, don’t apologize for your more conservative style. We’re about as open minded as it gets. Live and let live beautifully.

Warmest Regards,

Erin

We Support Our Community

Dear Reader-

Are you familiar with Happy Hollow? Sure, most people are. Who doesn’t love a petting zoo? But did you know about the historical park on the same property? San Jose History Park has been preserving San Jose’s history since 1949 on the expansive grounds of Kelley Park. Within their museums is a number of exhibits, and a new one just opened on the 20th. A history of tattoos and female tattoo artists in the Bay Area! Righteousness!

image

I attended the opening of this marvelous exhibit and I highly recommend it. A fascinating mix of art, photography, interviews, history, and historic items of a once subversive culture, it will appeal to anyone interested in tattoos or their history. Check it out! It’s open every Saturday and Sunday through December.

Want Great Eyebrows?

Dear Reader-

Great hair can only do so much without some complimentary components. Namely, fabulous eyebrows. If you are at a loss as to where to go to get your dream brows, fear not- we can help! I have been seeing an esthetician for years, Megan, and she has given me these great brows since day one.

And she has started her own business! The Skin Therapy is now open in Willow Glen! 1022 Lincoln Ave. San Jose 95125 is the address where your new brows await! Facials, waxing, you name it, and Megan has got it.

Prom Season Is Coming!

Dear Reader-

Punxsutawney Phil predicted an early spring this year, and we know what spring means…..sock hops! Spring Formal, Prom, call them what you like. But this is certain- there is a disturbing trend on the rise. Flat prom hair. Yessiree, girls are tending to buy fancy dresses, shoes and jewelry, and then they are skipping formal hair, and attending their important functions looking like they do every other day. Yikes! Silk taffeta and bed head hair? What is this world coming to? No self-respecting young lady should be caught dead at a formal event without the proper hair! It’s not natural, it’s not proper, it looks terrible!

Turn to me during this crisis. These baby bands specialize in event hair of all kinds. I actually couldn’t love anything more. If you get rebuffed by your teen, simply ask them this-“Do you want (insert cheerleader name here) to look better than you?” And if your teen queen is a cheerleader, just remind her she has an image to uphold. You only have her best interests at heart.

Kind Regards,

Erin

Holiday Parking Can Get Crowded

Dear Reader-

We are celebrating our first Christmas here in Carriage Square! So far, it has been a great spot- plenty of parking, nice neighbors, centrally located, and easy freeway access.

Now that the holidays have arrived, we are really getting the full picture of how busy Flames Restaurant gets during the holiday season. They are a jumpin’ joint! We love the people watching this brings- quinceaneras, weddings, birthday parties….. The downfall is that parking can get fairly impacted when they are really busy.

The moral of the story? During the season, allow a few extra minutes to park. There is parking all along the street and across the street. It may be busy, it may not, it’s not a guarantee. But if these past couple of weeks are any indication, the place will be rockin’ until January.

Warm Regards,

Erin
